Fairies are the main species of the land of Aster. They are the humans to Earth, creatures who have explored and settled across the lands. It is said that the first fairies originated in a land only known as Origin, when magic entered the world. They’ve been around ever since, separating into different races with their own distinctive traits and powers. In the modern day, fairies can often be defined into 7 types, fire, water, earth, air, light, dark, and mind fairies. All fairies have certain strengths and weaknesses due to their type, but a universal weakness is the loss of control of their own magical core. Magic that’s too powerful for what they have can instantly kill a fairy, and constant drain and exhaustion of their magic–paired with not fully recovering naturally–can tear their magical core from them, which can cause a magic-deficiency illness. Therefore, most fairies are rather careful about learning more powerful spells, and control is a constant emphasis for those who wish to learn more.

Fairies grow slower than humans do, and therefore, they can live up to 200 years, occasionally even older. Most fairies are considered toddlers until they are 10, and children until they’re 20. Their teenage years are from 21, and come of age at 36. To calculate your fairy’s age, simply multiply the age you think they are by 2, give or take.
While nearly everyone born to a Fairy has a magical core, there is still a large portion of fairies in Aster that do not have magic. When born to a fairy, one must consider the parentage. While there are many fairies that stick to their own kind, the world has changed since the old days, and many interbreed with one another. With the same parentage, the child has a 70% chance of gaining their parents’ powers. When both parents are different types, they have 35% chance of being the father’s, 35% of being the mother’s, and 30% chance of having no magic or only magical traits of the parents.

Even fairies with magic don’t often have the power or the upbringing to truly bank on it. Most everyday fairies have a low or average amount of magic in the first place, which is excellent for natural skills such as potion making, casting simple spells, divining or crafting magical items, but rarely do common fairies invest in more than two or three talents, despite the range of magic available. After all, it’s just as much as being smart with magic as powerful; many of the most powerful fairies in the world don’t necessarily have a bigger magical core, they’re simply better at utilizing the lower level skills to their best advantage.

Most fairies start using their powers in their childhood. The youngest–and often said, the most talented–begin at the age of nine or ten, while most end up developing their magic by the time they’re twenty-six. It really depends on how attuned to the magical energy in the world they are, and how well their own drive and personality fits the power they were born. While the age they activate their magic may be an early indicator to their power level, that isn’t always the case. In the end, it’s about control and practice all the same, and each type of magic has certain requirements that make them stronger.

While extremely powerful fairy children are rare, there are lineages of powerful fairies in the world. Occasionally, some can be born to normal fairies, but they're often rare unless a parent is above average in the amount of magical power. Even more rare are powerful fairies with a large magical core born to non-magic parents. It's said to be impossible unless one was a changeling. Changelings, or fairies swapped by the gods, do exist, but they're extremely rare. Since the fall of the old empires, there has yet to be a changeling child seen.

Many average citizens in the world cannot afford to spend all their time training their magic; therefore, the rich and powerful have an advantage here in being more powerful fairies. However, that does not mean that the average citizens cannot best a noble in magic; it only means that proportionally, it's harder to be good at magic if you don't have the means to learn it.
While many imagine fairies as tiny little creatures with fluttery butterfly wings, fairies usually look like normal humans. Two legs, two arms, all the pizzazz. Even wings can be rare, often only manifesting in the most powerful fairies. It’s seen as a waste of energy, especially because it requires a large amount of raw power, power that can be used in other ways. However, when wings do manifest, they are often in the element that the fairy has, and let’s be honest. They are rather beautiful.

Certain fairies also can have certain secondary magic characteristics. Often, these are reserved for masters who have trained and expanded their magical core enough, but there are occasions where children are just born genetically with extreme power. They can manifest in scales or fins or even hands and feet that have the markings of their element. It can be rather difficult to handle extreme power without training, but many communities have seen at least one in their past, and have capabilities to handle this. Columba’s university and Dorna’s labs both offer extra help and scholarships for those with extreme magic potential.

Pregnancy for fairies lasts a year and a half, and is physically demanding given the magical nature of the fetus. Once born, the baby is visited by the local acolyte or High Priest, registered as a citizen, and blessed. Twins are rare but possible, but triplets and up are unheard of.
There are three main languages in Aster. Cailian, Heilian, and Arynn. Cailian is spoken by those who live in Lacaille, Maline, Nyre, and Kulkan. Heilian is spoken by those who live in Heizoek, Koji, Maline, Kulkan, Guivre, and Nyre. Arynn is spoken by those in Kama, Esso'tera, Nyre, and Kulkan.

While these are the main languages, there are still minor dialect differences. However, most countries will have people who speak other languages due to trade, and many who can travel regularly often learn a second language. Those who have the means to travel for fun often hire translators instead.

The languages themselves are quite different. Cailian originates from Lacaille, and it's the closest thing to a romantic language in our world. There are gendered pronouns for objects.

Heilian on the other hand, originates from Heizoek. It's a pictoral language, with symbols that represent what they illustrate. It's not gendered and has little concept of past or present tenses.

Arynn is known as the ancient language, or one of the older, classical languages of the world. It's a tonal language and sounds a lot more melodic than the other languages. It also uses genders in its pronouns and mixes more consonants than most other languages. It's a lot more simpler in terms, but it has the most words for plants and natural items than other languages.

The languages are different but they also affect the cultures of different fairies. There are certain locations such as Guivre that use their dialects in the way they name their children.
There are 5 main religions in Aster. Zorya, Frey, The firebird and its serpent, Aos'i, and The Celestial Beings. While there are religious differences, many respect them as simply variations of interpretations. Many believe that they can all co-exist in some way or form. Many of the religions also correspond to certain types of fairies. There are also fairies who do not believe in any gods at all.

ZORYA The Zoryans–or the believers–see the world as the ground for the two great spirits, a spirit of light and a spirit of darkness. It’s no wonder that most of them are either light or dark fairies. The spirit of light, Yara, is not necessarily the spirit of goodness. It is simply the spirit of order and peace. With order and peace, the world comes together, but order and peace often comes at the expense of being unchanging. It comes at the expense of justice at times. A world that is unchanging can never grow. It will remain the same, even at the expense of those who suffer. The spirit of darkness, Zor, is the spirit of disorder, of chaos. It is not necessarily a spirit of evil; after all, chaos is not malicious. Chaos, in some ways, can be good for the world. Chaos is change, and change is necessary. Sometimes, the peace and order must be broken for the world to move forward. Therefore, the belief of Zorya is a belief in balance. Evident in Lacaille and Heizoek, there are two variations.

In Lacaille the religion rules the land. It’s evident even in the monarchy, where the rulers are always a dark fairy and a light fairy. They follow the teachings in a strict manner, an outwardly way. They always try to find a way to balance their more extreme beliefs. In Heizoek, however, their religion focuses more on the internal battle. They believe that it’s a fight within, that everyone has both darkness and light, and that it’s the fairy’s responsibility to respond to what they think is right within themselves.

FREY Frey is the god of change. Often known best by water fairies, such as those in Guivre and Maline, he’s known as the trickster god, and a god who never remains in one form. Like water, he can take whatever shape he wants, whatever form that exists. He whispers in the wind and he flows in the rivers. It’s also a lesson in hospitality; after all, if the god can turn into anything, any creature you treat with kindness may gain you favour, and any you treat with hostility may turn out to be vengeful god, cursing you for eternity. Many who worship frey leave him offerings and float lights and fresh fruit down the rivers and in the open seas, praying for fair winds and the courage and ability to face the great unknown.

THE FIREBIRD AND ITS SERPENT Many of the fire fairies believe in the story of the Firebird. It is said that a bird who carries the sun would search for the snake it can eat. It is said that the snake searches for the bird, so that when it lays an egg to be reborn, the snake can eat its egg. It’s an eternal hunt for one another. The serpent’s body created the boundary between the earth and the sky, and the firebird was the sun that gave fire life. Fire fairies count their days by the hours of light they have; and on the solstices, they worship the firebird and the serpent depending on their position in the sky. For many, it is a story of life and death, of day and night, of light and darkness, it’s a story of opposites that keep life in balance.

It is thought that if one should meet the firebird, they will unlock the true gift of a fire fairy and be able to unleash ancient magic. In Koji, it is said that the firebird once rested in the emperor’s garden, the golden fan leaves of the gingko being its favourite place to rest. When the emperor caught the bird stealing fruit from his garden, he confronted the bird, asking him for wisdom in return for all the fruit in his gardens. In return, the king was granted the knowledge of fire, one that was unique to only his lineage. It is why they call the king of Koji the phoenix emperor. In Kulkan, however, they worship the snake almost more than the firebird. The serpent often represents a sort of hero figure in certain legends; rather than stealing the eggs of the firebird, he chases after it for wisdom and knowledge, something admirable in Kulkan culture.

AOS’i AOS’i is also known as the three-headed god. Those in Kama and some places beyond believe that the spirit of the forest has three faces–similar to their sacred plant, the Trillium–that represent the three phases of life. The Foliate head represents life, and often cannot be seen through the leaves. The Disgorging head represents death, and it has leaves coming out of his mouth, and the Bloodsucking head has foliage coming out of all facial orifices, and it represents reincarnation.

Their belief decorates almost everything, from numbers of three being used as protection or the way they decorate the bodies they bury once a fairy passes away. It is said that if one sees a face in the trees, their meanings and interpretations change depending on which face is seen. It’s a way for believers to see the future, and to predict trouble in advance. The three-faced god is a mysterious one, and little of the religious and cultural beliefs are known outside of Kama.

THE CELESTIAL BEINGS Some believe the world was created by the most powerful of fairies, ones with powers that have never been seen before. Mind fairies often believe that a fairy of time and a fairy of space created the world, making the dimensions of what is now Aster. It is said that they still exist, traveling the world on their own plane of existence, and that if one encounters the fairy of time, they will find themselves able to see into the past or the future in ways they could not expect. It is also said that if one stumbles upon the fairy of space, they can find themselves in a totally different place the next second, lost in a different part of Aster than they had been moments before.

Those who believe in the celestial beings do not see themselves as individuals, but part of a moving system. They see all of time as existing in the same moment. Death does not exist the same way, for they may be dead now but they are alive in another moment. It is often seen as a religion that banks on the concept of illusions. Those who believe in the Celestial Beings often talk of time and space as if they are relative.
LOCATIONS: Koji, Esso’tera and Kolkan

POWERS: fireballs, welding/weaponmaking,

HIGH LEVEL: phoenix physiology, magma, cursed fire

WEAKNESS: water, overburning fire, can be burnt by other magical fire

APPEARANCE: varied, but a lot of fire fairies come from arid regions. They range from pale to olive-skinned, and usually have thick, curly hair, ranging from ginger to browns. Usually smaller than other types of fairies. An easy way to spot a fire fairy, however, is to look for red hair, as it usually means one is descended from a fire family.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS: They can develop hands that look like coal, the lines of fire growing as if they are setting themselves on fire. Their eyes glow red when they use their powers, and some, their hair also glows like flame.
Fire fairies are those who emerge from the ashes of the firebird. Said to be born from a shooting star, they are gifted with powers that can generate heat. Therefore, a lot of fire fairies work in creating energy, food production, defense, and in weapon-making. A surprisingly common pairing is of a fire and earth fairy; it’s been tradition in many places such as Esso’tera that fire and earth unite to create something bigger. It isn’t surprising that this pairing still comes up often; after all, fire and earth have always worked together to create the lands we live in.

Fire fairies are often seen as impulsive and quick to anger. There’s a saying to never turn your back against a fire fairy while you insult them, they’ll burn you as quickly as they can. Perhaps a lot of this can be true; after all, fire, when out of control, can be dangerous. However, fire also brings life. They are people who have an inner energy inside of them, people with an inner drive. They are people who can inspire, who have the desire and will to get what they want. It can translate to stubbornness and impulsivity, but it takes effort to build a flame. Nearly all fire fairies have an ability to regulate their temperature despite the weather.

Fire fairies often have what some will consider the most dangerous power. After all, any fairy can see the danger of a wildfire. It’s one of the few powers that generate from within. It doesn’t require an existing element for control. Therefore, it’s a flexible thing, and it can be used as long as oxygen is around. However, it requires a lot of control. A fire uncontrolled can cause irreversible damage; therefore most fire fairies are required to learn ways to control their temper and their inner fire while they use their powers.
LOCATIONS: Maline, Guivre, Kama

POWERS: water blasts, ice disks, steam, potion making, water divination, water breathing

HIGH LEVEL: fluid transformation, blood bending LMFAO, water generation (using internal magic rather than external)

APPEARANCE: varied, but as water fairies usually live in Maline, they usually have olive skin and dark eyes or blue eyes.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS: They can have faintly webbed hands and feet, and their hair texture is often a little more waxy due to their close proximity to their element. There are markings on their neck that activate as gills when they’re underwater. Their eyes glow blue when they use their powers.
Water Fairies are perhaps some of the most adaptable kinds of fairies. Water can be gentle like a raindrop, but it can also be fierce like a tsunami. Water can take the shape of a solid, liquid, and gas. Water also creates bonds, and these fairies truly bond with one another. They’re in their element most when close to bodies of water, but If one is resourceful enough, water is everywhere. Water is change, and fairies of this element know that. Many believe in Frey, the god of many shapes. However, as the name states, the various colonies of water fairies often believe in differing tales. In some ways, it’s truly a water fairy religion, that even their gods embody the idea of change.

Perhaps this is also why water fairies have the highest chance of developing extra physiological changes. Nearly all water fairies living near their element develop markings along their neck that appear as magical gills, in order for them to breathe underwater. Some even develop fins or body textures that help them swim better.

Water fairies can be some of the most powerful types too, but they’re often seen as reactionary, compared to other types. They use the flow of energy around them to attack; therefore they rarely hit first, and some may see it as cowardice. Their need for water around them–at least in most cases–also limits their power, as only powerful water fairies are able to generate their own source of water.

Water is also difficult to manipulate, as it doesn’t have a single form. To control water, one must truly have the concentration and spatial awareness to do so, and to truly understand the way water and how the flow of magic works. It takes a lot of work to truly be attuned to the element of change, and only the most adaptable can utilize the skills to their best ability. To overuse one’s power as a water fairy, one might accidentally trigger a transformation of their own bodies, unable to fully become human again and transforming themselves into water permanently. Some fairies with extraordinary powers can do this at will, but most cannot, and an attempt to do so may prove to be fatal.
LOCATIONS: Kama, Esso’tera, Heizoek, Koji

POWERS: plant manipulation, earth mimicry, earth manipulation, smithing, growth magic, healing, herbology, solid merging (passing through earth), seismic sense, sand manipulation

HIGH LEVEL: golem creation, granulation, magma magma manipulation

WEAKNESSES: Turning into stone, strong water, mineral availability,

APPEARANCE: Earth fairies are one of the most varied creatures, with skin tones ranging from fair to dark, with hair and eyes of all colors. They often have warm colored skin and asiatic features. The one common trait is that earth fairies from a long lineage often are stocky and muscular.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS: Earth fairies often have rough skin due to the element they work with, and their callouses can turn into stone. Some of them can find minerals growing on their skin, and it's known that if one overuses their power, they can turn into stone. Their eyes glow green when they use their powers.
Earth fairies are built of substance; they were the ones made by the gods from the clay of the earth, and they're the ones who first coexisted with nature. Earth is both a still element and a growing one; earth fairies control both the ground beneath and all those that grow upon it. Many Earth fairies work in smithing and mining, but also as herbologists and healers due to their specialty with plants. Many also work in farming and food production due to their gifts. Earth is substance, and many either specialize in the mineral–the ground and the land underneath, or the plants that grow above it.

Earth fairies are diverse not only in their gifts but in their ways of magic; there are many talents and special gifts that earth fairies have, and their powers are very reliable. Due to this diversity, one can find an earth fairy nearly anywhere in Aster.

Not many earth fairies have secondary characteristics, but many who work with the element often develop hardened skin and callouses due to the element's toughness. There are some who are so at one with the element that their own skin crystalizes into the minerals they work with.

Earth fairies can be powerful, but many choose to use their talents for growth. Plant magic is useful in healing and in rewilding and building landscapes, and many Earth fairies choose to stay still and to understand the earth rather than influence it. They are people who know what they stand for and stand by it; perhaps some may say this is stubbornness but many see it as a strong moral compass. Earth fairies often wait and listen to all sides of the story before acting. They are neutral until they must strike. They are enduring and persistant.

The biggest danger for an earth fairy is overestimating the amount of magic one must use to affect the earth. Earth is a stubborn element and both the ground and the plants have a life and mind of their own, and therefore, trying to manipulate earth requires a stronger will and stronger power. To manipulate earth that's too strong for a fairy will result in them turning into stone. They're also limited to whether there is earth around them, and for those who specialize in plant magic, whether the plant can survive in the conditions existing. In a sense, certain types of plants are better equipped for warm weather and lighter conditions than cold locations or arid conditions.
LOCATIONS: Heizoek, Kulkan, Nyre

POWERS: Air manipulation, gas manipulation, cloud manipulation, Oxygen independence, Sound Manipulation, Flying, Spatial Awareness, Astral Projection, Intangibility

HIGH LEVEL: Electricity manipulation, Deoxygenation, Jet propulsion, Plasma Manipulation, Weather manipulation

WEAKNESS: difficult to master, fire manipulation, ineffective in vacuums,

APPEARANCE: Air fairies often have warm toned skin and brown or blue eyes. They also often keep their hair short, but their hair texture is naturally quite fine. They don't necessarily have a hair color preference.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS: Their skin can seem translucent the more powerful they are. Their eyes glow white when using powers.
Air is the element of freedom and it shows well in the way air fairies work. They're often quite flighty and rarely find themselves tied down to one thing or another; they're the type to prefer working together and communal ways of living than other fairies. There's a saying that an air fairy can often carry everything they need on their backs; they're not attached to many physical things, but there's a spirituality in the way they travel where the wind blows. Many work in agriculture due to their ability to make changes to the weather, as well as creating wind energy to power their cities.

Air fairies are one of the few types that don't have many secondary characteristics. The only difference is that those who spend too much time in the air can often seem somewhat translucent.

While air fairies can affect many things–air is all around us, after all–they aren't especially powerful, mostly by choice. Air is an element that requires skill and understanding, and it's extremely flexible, but raw power is rarely used in this element. Most air fairies prefer to work on tricks and ways to manipulate lower level skills than focusing on poewr itself. However, those who truly wish to earn power on its own can create great things. They can affect the weather itself, as well as electricity in the air. They can also manipulate oxygen and humidity levels in the air. It's also common for air fairies to be able to manipulate their own form and pass through solid objects.

However this can be dangerous for air fairies. Phase too much or constantly be on the wind and one might find themselves turning into the wind. Changing particles to air or gas takes a lot of work, and many fairies who overuse their powers can find themselves turning into gas all the same. It's easy for an air fairy to be blown away and disappear, and many who train in this art must always remember to be rooted to the ground despite how cool the breezes are.
LOCATIONS: Lacaille, Esso’tera, Maline

POWERS: astral projection, illusion, reflection, invisibility, light beam, light portal,

HIGH LEVEL: full world illusions, etc. blinding, light energy/healing, light/vision manipulation,

WEAKNESS: dark energy, lack of emotional control, negative energy

APPEARANCE: varied, but many from heavily light lineage have darker skin. It is said that a darker skinned light fairy can absorb more light and produce more powerful magic. They often have pale eyes. Most light fairies have a mixed lineage.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS: Gold flecks can begin to appear on their hands and feet and their body can lose pigmentation due to the exposure to their powers. Their eyes turn gold when they use their powers.
Almost all light fairies are believers of the Zorya, and nearly all of them resonate with the spirit of light. Light fairies are often seen as the pinnacle of power and morality, when it is often far from the truth. There is a misconception that light fairies represent good, while dark fairies represent evil. The spirit of light isn’t necessarily a good spirit, but it’s the spirit of peace and order. While light fairies often follow this in a moral sense–that one must make peace in the world and avoid violence–this is not always a good thing.

Light fairies have a culture based on order. There is a set place and time and ritual for everything. Order is peace, but order is also unchanging. It means they value peace over justice, and that they can be rather stubborn in the way they perceive things. They see the world in a somewhat binary way; there is a right way to do everything and one must follow the rituals set to achieve this balanced way of living. Peace and order may be seen as ‘good’ and ‘right’ but their negative traits can affect the way they run their daily lives.

They are often early risers, similar to fire fairies. They rise with the sun. Their clothing also reflects this; they dress mostly in lighter colors. Bright linens with embroidery, yellows and reds, most of their cultural dress has warm tones. They also don plenty of jewelry, often made of gold and the brightest crystals they can find.

While light may seem like an easy power to utilize, it requires a high amount of emotional control. It requires a fairy to often utilize their inner peace and calm to truly take advantage of their gifts, and is often fueled by positive energy. Due to this, light fairies have to constantly practice meditation and their rigidity contributes to how well they maintain their powers.

Losing control of light powers can be dangerous, more so for others than themselves. They can accidentally blind people or like mind fairies, throw people off into a visual reality of their own. Light fairies can lose their powers if they don’t maintain their own sense of peace and calmness, and losing their moral compass or reason for existence can wipe out their powers all together.
LOCATIONS: Lacaille, Guivre, Kama

POWERS: nightmare/illusions, shadow control, night vision, darkness solidification, dark teleportation, shadow sneaking, ink manipulation

HIGH LEVEL: absolute nightmare, total darkness, dark creature manifestation, dark eldritch , shadow marionette, fear detection

WEAKNESSES: light powers, losing control/autonomy to powers, overwhelmed by darkness,

APPEARANCE: varied, but shadow fairies usually have lighter skin due to the lack of sunlight. They often have darker hair and eyes. Most shadow fairies have a mixed lineage.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS: Powerful shadow fairies can have markings of darkness–sort of like ink or tattoos–marring their skin in patterns. It often shows signs of teetering on the edge of control. Their eyes turn black when powers are being used.
Dark fairies are almost all believers in Zorya, though unlike light fairies, they resonate with the dark spirit more. Despite the misconception, darkness does not mean evil. It’s simply the spirit of disorder. Dark fairies may enjoy disorder and chaos, but many function perfectly fine without it. It simply means that they are more prone to recklessness and believe in a more ‘the end justifies the means’ sort of approach to life. They don’t mind twisting their morals occasionally if it’s meant for the greater good.

That means they’re willing to go out and protest for what is right. They’re willing to go beyond their comfort zone to make sure things are done properly. They’re self-sacrificing at times, and they believe that change can be good, even if it’s inconvenient at times. They’re the type to fight for what they believe in even if it means overthrowing the status quo to get it.

Dark fairies have powers over the darkness; they work best in the night and are often night owls. They can control the dark and its energy, and manifest things that crawl out in the night. It is said that the dark fairies can gain more power in times of stress and chaos; they can thrive off negative emotions and turn them into power. Unsurprisingly, many dark fairies work in medical care or in security, prisons, and other jobs that require (sometimes) doing the dirty work.

Dark fairies may also have one of the most dangerous powers. Due to the fact that their powers can form from absorbed emotions, they often have to rely on the energy around them to fuel their power. The problem though is that if one cannot separate their own emotions from the emotions they can absorb, and if they can’t learn to block it out if they’re not in need of their powers, they can accidentally feed their powers until they fully take over the fairy.

A fairy that’s been taken over becomes a sort of wraith, only chasing after people’s pain. Many born with dark fairy powers often keep theirs subdued or have to find ways to learn and separate that energy. However, many old families find that the best way to teach a fairy is to harness their own negative emotions to power it. While it can be a powerful method, it also is difficult to control.
LOCATIONS: Nyre, Kulkan

POWERS: empathy or low level mind reading, psychics/divination, attraction manipulation, psionic power, clairvoyance,

HIGH LEVEL: sensory manipulation, mind control, chronoskimming, memory manipulation, mind manifestation

WEAKNESSES: mental strength limitations, losing control, losing their mind

APPEARANCE: varied, but a common thing is dark hair. Certain mind fairies have brightly colored eyes, but most have grey eyes. Many choose to get piercings and tattoos due to their lack of secondary characteristics.

SECONDARY CHARACTERISTICS None. Their eyes glow purple sometimes when they use their powers, but even that is rare.
Perhaps the rarest type of fairy, mind fairies are often seen as the hidden type of fairy, due to their powers being rather invisible compared to the other types. Mind fairies rely on their own strength of resolve and their intellect, and therefore often have one of the most difficult powers to control. However, due to the mind’s limitless abilities, it can also make for some of the most powerful instinctual powers as well.

Mind fairies are perhaps the only type of fairy that does not have secondary elemental characteristics. Other than the usual glow of their eyes and the occasional pair of psionic wings, they do not have anything that makes them stand out from other fairies. Due to this, many mind fairies have a sense of fashion or body modification to declare their status, from piercings and tattoos to other more unconventional ways of modifying their physical forms.

Mind fairies are often born with certain gifts such as empathic senses, mind reading, or clairvoyance, and compared to the other elements, rarely have the ability to swap out their main talents or to gain more then one main power. Mind fairy powers often correspond under three categories, emotions, thoughts, or memories. Powers such as reading emotional energy and attraction fall under emotions, while mind reading and telepathy go under thoughts. Imagination manifestations, time-related powers and clairvoyance go under memory. Mind fairies can learn other powers under the other categories, but they will rarely be as strong as their original gift.

While mind fairies may be powerful, it takes an extreme amount of mental strength to use their gifts. Many beginners find it difficult to separate their own thoughts, emotions and memories from the ones they gain around them. The biggest risk for a mind fairy is to lose their mind, therefore many who wish to pursue the craft seek a certain separation from those around them, or simply see themselves as an extension of the collective rather than view themselves as individual.
