Divya let out a hissed curse as she tumbled to the ground, fire flaring in her leg where the knife struck. She didn't pull it out- she wasn't that stupid, but she shifted away from Safiya, debating if she should pull out her own throwing knives.
"You want to talk? Then talk!" Divya spat, glaring up at the woman. "What are you leading me into a booby-trapped house for? Apprenticeship, my ass." The thief hated direct confrontation, preferring to remain in the shadows, and being cornered like this got her hackles up.

The girl seemed unfazed, a dry snort of amusement leaving her mouth. "Because you must be actually stupid to rob a house that had the seal of the Umbra on its door?" she gave Divya a look as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "honestly, I admire your courage and they're right about how you must be good at what you do, but do you really think you're going to survive out here on your own? With all of them hunting you down?"
Safiya crouched by Divya, looking at the knife embedded in her leg from a bit of a distance, just in case the other woman would retaliate. "Look, they gave me two choices. Either I strike a deal and find a way to recruit you, or I have to kill you, and if I don't, they'll just send someone else to do the job, and the next time they might not be that nice, so would you at least listen to the deal I'm offering? I know you don't want political power and you want to be comfortable and a little more, and well, let's just say we have an opening for someone with your skills."
The young woman edged closer to Divya, her hand gesturing to the knife. "Let me help with that," she spoke, still wary of whether Divya would simply fight back like a cornered animal, or allow her to retrieve her knife.

Divya's face darkened farther, the scowl on her features unmissable. She had been stupid- arrogant, even, assuming she could continue to get away with flaunting her power in front of a highly organized and secretive organization. It had felt good, to be an individual sticking it to a powerful group, but it had always been destined to end like this.
The thief had always assumed she would accept death when they came for her- after all, if she couldn't live freely what was the point? But now she found that she didn't want to die. She hadn't expected to be recruited, nor did she exactly want to accept. But what choice did she have?
With a grown, she stuck out her leg, allowing the girl to look at the knife. "What would I have to do?" She asked warily, still unsure if she should take the deal. Divya had decided to hear her out- and if she hated it, she supposed she could accepted death, even if the little voice in the back of her head protested at that.

Safiya looked up. "It's gonna hurt," she commented, as she quickly pulled the knife out and proceeded to press her finger against the cut, her hands glowing red as she cauterised the wound. The young woman looked up with intrigue; she didn't expect Divya to give in so easily. Perhaps she already had an idea of what this thief would be like; after all, why would anyone bother stealing from the Umbras? Even as a child, Safiya had known. Steal from them and you'd end up dead, right?
"Considering how you managed to sneak into a secured house with some of the top guards...let's say they're impressed, and those skills might be useful in a couple of stealth missions, not unlike what you're doing with your little heists. Town center, you seen the hotel with the fountains? This time you'll need to pass a little test for me," Safiya replied with a smirk, "shouldn't be hard, but meet me tonight at six, and I'll give you the room and items I need you to get."
She shrugged, her hands shoved into her pockets as she turned back towards the town. "If I don't see you, you better be out of town by then. Don't use the gates; our guards know what you look like. I'll be at the bar across the street."

Divya gritted her teeth against the pain, still sullen about this unpleasant turn of events. However much she did not want to work for anyone else, she also did not want to die- nor did she want to run away when she had a vast majority of her treasures stored in this city. She may have been cocky, but she was not entirely stupid. If this was what it took to keep herself alive... well, so be it.
"Fine," she said in response to Safiya, watching her leave. At least she got to keep the rubies she'd filched from the office in the trapped house.
As pissy as she was about it, she was at the hotel she'd been told to be at. She had changed her scarf for a different, heavier one, and she absently rubbed the cauterized wound on her leg as she sat on the edge of the fountain, waiting for Safiya to come and give her this stupid test.

Safiya was there, exactly at six. Sauntering over with a bright expression on her face, she immediately waved when she saw Divya. "Hey!" she greeted as if they were simply two friends, coming to the hotel for a drink, "how are you!" Immediately hooking her arm around Divya's she chattered about, talking about how the market was busy and something about her mother as they walked past the guards and the bellhops.
As soon as they passed the door, her voice shifted back to her normal one, her tone a lot less high-pitched than it was moments ago. "Third floor, room five, in the closet should be a fake door. Not sure if there's any traps but I guess you'll figure out hm? I'll distract the guy, you have maybe twenty minutes, maybe less. Make sure you get the file, in the bedside drawer, there might be some cash and jewelry."
Safiya gave Divya a wink. "Make it out before then, or well...things will just get a bit messy, hm?"

Divya did not respond to the wink, instead simply nodding and slipping off to the staircase. The room itself was easy enough to locate, and the locks in this hotel were a joke- she picked it in a few seconds, closing the door behind her as she entered the dim room.
The room itself had no traps, since the real treasures were hidden behind the fake door. Divya eased the fake door open, rolling her eyes at the few obvious traps laid out- he had put so many it was clear the patron was hiding a more complicated trap spell, which was still amateur compared to the ones she'd avoided in her museum heists.
With a step as light as feathers, the thief moved around the room, disarming the traps and pocketing various items she found. The file itself was easy enough to find, and Divya was in and out of the secret room in less than ten minutes. Only there was a problem- the patron was re-entering his room, staring down the woman who was coming out of his closet. Safiya's distraction had failed- or this had all been a set-up. Divya just stared, debating whether she should dart out the door or window.

Safiya instead arrived at the bar, standing by the bar, waiting for a certain man, who quickly came in, striking a quiet conversation with the bartender. It didn't take long for her to close in, ordering a drink close to the man, before striking up a conversation. It was simple, things like the weather, how his trip was going around Esso'tera, where she was from, but he seemed to be in a hurry.
Divya better be fast, Safiya thought, because she wasn't exactly going to seduce a guy who looked this nervous. This either was a man who was paranoid about his own life, or he had been tipped off. Safiya's eyes darted to the door, as the man quickly excused himself to leave. She wasn't far behind. If Divya had left, she'd simply go upstairs to another room. If she hadn't...well, she'd think of that later. It didn't matter anyway; he was a target up to Safiya's discretion.
Turns out, it had certainly been a bit presumptuous that Divya would've been gone; the distraction hadn't taken as long as she hoped.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" the man snarled as he saw the other woman, and immediately, he was in her face, grabbing Divya's arm tightly as his fists turning into fire, "you're going to regret stealing from me, kid."

Divya gasped as the pain rippled along her arm, instinctively jerking her knee up to the man's crotch. As he doubled over, releasing her, she backed away. Should she leave- he had seen her face, though, and that meant a mess for her later on. Should she kill him? She'd never killed anyone before. It had been stupid to rely on someone else- that just meant mistakes like this could happen more easily.
The thief drew her knife, hesitating for a moment. Before she could make up her mind to finish the job, Safiya entered the room. "What do I do?" Divya asked her, wincing as the burns on her arm throbbed with pain. Despite how annoyed she was with her, she didn't know how to proceed, as she'd never been caught in recent memory.

As much as this was not Safiya's job–they had mentioned supervision, not involvement–it didn't really matter when the other girl was in trouble. Her reaction was immediate, shoving her boot into the man's knees as he lost his balance and fell forward. He let go of Divya as he caught himself, before immediately turning to Safiya, turning his fire towards the other girl.
Safiya smirked, as she blocked the fiery fist that came for her. Damn, he was a fire fairy huh? Her own powers wouldn't be too helpful, it seemed, but it didn't matter. She didn't need them to kill this guy. The man sneered. "So they send two little girls to steal from me huh?" he spat, "and I thought I'd be a higher target than this."
"Disappointed?" Safiya returned as he aimed another punch at her face. She quickly side-stepped him, her own leg hooking around his to unbalance him once more, slamming her weight into his side. This time, he was on the floor.
"You wanna end him or should I?" Safiya called out as she grabbed the man by his hair, pulling a knife out, pointed at his throat in case he thought to fight back.

"Gods, you do it," said Divya with a look of disgust, grimacing as Safiya slit his throat. The blood gushed out, pooling on the floor of the hotel room, and the thief edged away from it. A mess. How unfortunate. She watched as Safiya stepped back, dusting her hands off, as the man twitched and stilled.
"So... what now? Do we clean it up?" Divya asked, nails biting into her palm as she squeezed her fist. "I never- well, I've never killed anyone, surprisingly. My work involves secrecy and a quick in and out, and this was... anything but."

This was really nothing to her, and it was easy. A quick slit of the man's throat and the jacket pressed to his throat to stem at least some of the bleeding. wrapping it around his throat, it'd be easier to clean up afterwards.
She immediately went to the bathroom to wash her hands, before returning, raising her brow at Divya's confession. "You've never killed anyone?" a slight hint of amusement seemed to rise up from Safiya, "I'm actually surprised."
Safiya shrugged, sitting on the bed. "Someone must've leaked something to him," she frowned, "he seemed to be pretty urgent to come up here, so we'll have to figure that out, but to be honest, I assumed you'd get out faster than that, but I guess you still met expectations even if the mission got a bit...sidetracked."
She turned to the body. "Nah, we have a cleanup crew for that. The maid in charge of this room is one of ours; she'll make sure all the evidence is gone. Fake it as a suicide or something."
Turning to Divya, she raised a brow. "The papers?"

Divya examined the body with a look of disgust, before digging the papers out of her bag and handing them to Safiya. "Do you want the jewelry too, or can I keep that?" She asked, edging farther away from the blood. They had a maid who would get rid of this for them?
That was... convenient. Perhaps being a part of the Umbras wouldn't be so bad- at least she wouldn't have to do all the work for her heists anymore. Divya tended to be on the lazier side, and it really was a lot of effort to clean up if anything went wrong.

Safiya smirked. "Keep it," she shrugged, "gold's not really my colour. Consider it as a reward for the day. You passed the test."
She took the papers, looking through them. Hm. So he was part of the Serpents, the gang that had trashed one of the Umbra's bars by the Oasis. This would be useful; the papers detailed some of the other places they had planned to hit and some names that could prove useful.
"So what did you think?" Safiya spoke as she continued to read, "how does this compare to all the petty theft you do?"

"It was certainly bloodier." Divya glanced down at the body, her fingers examining the jewelry in her bag once more. "Though it wasn't that difficult- apart from the distraction failing. We can work out the kinks in future missions."
The thief cleared her throat, glancing back towards the door. "So, what now? Do I have to live with you guys? Or... show up at a clubhouse once a week to get missions? I don't know how this works."

Safiya laughed. "Yeah I guess so," she shrugged. Blood wasn't a bother to the young girl; she had seen plenty of this shit growing up, after all. She gave Divya a cryptic smile. "No worries, you'll find yourself with a message from our leader soon enough. I can't tell you where or when, but you'll know when she wants you to join her."
