"Yes, until we meet again," Aela agreed, nodding her head at the both of them, watching them go. Her father sat across from her, speaking briefly about the benefits of a marriage to a Rotherhithe.
Aela didn't question him. She had learned long ago not to do that. But her nods weren't as enthusiastic as they were when talking about subjects she actually enjoyed. Cato was nice, and probably a good strategic move as a husband. She just couldn't help feeling unnerved by the whole thing.
Not that it really mattered. She would do what she was told- she would do her duty.

The carriage ride wasn't long, but he only half-heartedly listened to his father speak, the man talking about how well that went and how soon enough, they'd be wedded, but all he could think of was how much he didn't want this. She was a child. A child! He couldn't imagine having to give up everything he was for girl so young and sheltered that she'd barely even understand what love was.
It wasn't fair to compare her to Elise, but how could Cato not? She was everything his soon-to-be wife wasn't; funny, relaxed...they had a chemistry and a way to relate to each other that the princess just didn't have.
He sighed.
"Is something wrong, son?" his father spoke, and Cato looked up, almost forgetting the fact that the man had been talking to him for the past ten minutes.
"No father," he replied with a smile, "I'm just tired. It's been a long day and I don't get nearly enough sleep some days at the guard."
"Ah, of course," the man replied easily, giving him a pat on the back, "you'll have plenty of time to rest tonight. You must've been nervous to meet your beloved, but you did a fine job. Even her father seems to look highly in your favour. I'm proud of you, son."
The boy just smiled and nodded, his mind drifting off to the letter he'd write to Elise tonight.
